3 Reasons You Can't Buy a TLBB Birthday Cake on the Day

Almost every day we have walk-in customers asking if we sell full cakes over the counter.

The answer is a resounding no, unfortunately, but a lot of people question why it takes 3 working days to order and have a cake fulfilled? Surely it doesn't actually take whole days to make a cake? Why don't we have a pantry full of cakes sitting there ready to go?

While we hate disappointing customers and having to say 'no, there are some very good reasons - and we thought it might be helpful to share them!

Reason 1 we don't do this - there's too much risk of wastage. Cakes are perishable as we all know, and there's a short window when they're at they're best. If we pre-made a load of full cakes and then just hoped for people to walk in and buy them, we'd waste a lot of ingredients and labour as no doubt they wouldn't all get bought. Side note: the people who walk in on the day for a cake generally aren't the same market who are willing to pay our prices, either.

Reason 2 we don't do this - it's a planning nightmare. Yes it doesn't take 3 days to make a cake, but when you're making 30-50 other products in the same week, everything has to be meticulously planned out in terms of bakers' time, oven space, fridge space, supplies and ingredients. We can't just shoehorn orders in at the last minute or things get missed or done to a lower standard.

Cakes like these need bespoke supplies which can take weeks to order in

Reason 3 we don't do this: yes the cake probably only takes up a couple of hours of actual manufacturing time, but there's a lot of passive time involved in this - the cake sitting in the oven, the cake sitting on the rack cooling down, the cake sitting in the fridge chilling (multiple times in between layers), the cake drip setting, the buttercream piping setting. We make sure all our cakes are finished the night before so they can fully set/chill/dry before being transported by you the next day, safely and securely. A cake that's rushed and picked up on the same day would have a very high chance of being structurally unsound.

So long story short, get your cakes ordered in advance! Those birthdays really don't come as a surprise - they're the same date every year... so plan ahead and then feel smug knowing you've ticked the most important part of a birthday off the list! Brownie (or cake) points incoming...

Of course, for those last minute situations, which we understand there will always be, that's why we have our beautiful counter full of cupcakes, macarons and slices which can be gift boxed to perfection! And multiple flavours are always a bonus.

The best time to order a birthday cake is now ;) The shortest lead time on our pre-order cakes is 3 working days. So what are you waiting for? Just click here to start your cake journey with us!
